Administrative Service

At the University of California, Riverside served as Director of Undergraduate Studies in Philosophy before being appointed in 2011 as the Associate Dean for Student Academic Affairs in the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences.

As Associate Dean, he was involved in undergraduate recruiting and admissions; academic orientation; academic advising; curriculum planning; teaching and learning; first and second-year programs; transfer programs; honors and awards; and College budgeting for instruction. Major initiatives included enrollment planning, growth mindset advising and peer mentoring, a major expansion of learning communities for all incoming first-year students, and organizational changes to academic advising and enrollment management.

After five years of service to the College as Associate Dean for Student Academic Affairs, in 2016 he transitioned to a faculty leadership role as Associate Dean for Arts & Humanities. The Arts & Humanities at UC Riverside include 14 academic departments, many interdepartmental academic programs, research centers, performing arts venues and a few galleries, including the downtown Riverside ARTSblock, which includes the California Museum of Photography, the Culver Center for the Arts, and the Sweeny Art Gallery.

From 2019-2021 he served as Vice Chair of the Executive Committee of the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences. Then from 2021-2022 he served as Chair of the Faculty in the role of Chair of the Executive Committee.

In 2022 he took on a systemwide responsibility as Associate Dean for the University of California Education Abroad Program.
